Santa Fe and E-470 Flyover

Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) flyover ramp was installed at Santa Fe Drive and C-470 to reduce congestion on Santa Fe Drive and ease southbound traffic merging onto eastbound C-470. . The bridge was opened four months ahead of schedule and under budget, primarily due to the use of the precast prestressed concrete structural system. EnCon Colorado received the Award of Excellence for Bridge Construction in the 44th Annual Rocky Mountain Chapter American Concrete Institute (ACI) Awards competition.

The Flagstaff core project consists of 46 pieces of 12-inch thick box cores stacked to form two stair towers, one elevator shaft, and one mechanical shaft. The cores were initially designed as cast-in-place, but with a winter casting schedule, the contractor looked for a more viable solution. Prefabrication allowed all pieces to be cast in a controlled environment, and erected on site with considerable time savings.  This was the first monolithic precast box project using shear elements in a building located in Utah.
